TEAM INFO AND RECRUITMENT

Our Subgroups:

Finance

The Finance subgroup is in charge of maintaining and sustaining the team’s funds. This subgroup fills out all grants and manages all sponsor relations. This subgroup consists of all team members that are doing their grants and or fundraising requirements to continue the season.

Strategy

The strategy subgroup is in charge of all game, robot, and competition strategy. This subgroup will be responsible for collecting and processing scouting data during competition, communicating with alliance members, analyzing the game to help ST make design choices, scrutinizing competitors to strategize an effective plan of attack, and analyzing previous matches with the drive team. Together with the coaches, mentors, student leadership, and drive team, the Strategy subgroup will be responsible for maximizing the team’s chances of winning before, during, and after competition.

Marketing

The Marketing subgroup utilizes their skills in social media productions that will represent the Buchanan Bird Brains online. This subgroup will work on the website all season, updating it when needed and making it look professional. The Marketing subgroup will create a posting schedule to stay on top of the Buchanan Bird Brains’ social media presence.

Media Development

The Media Development subgroup utilizes their skills in photography, videography, and editing to produce videos and photos. These will represent the Buchanan Bird Brains online media, videos, the Impact Binder and Impact Video. This subgroup will prepare members with skills in film, photography, and editing.

Outreach

The Outreach subgroup serves as the coordinators of all STEAM Workshops and as a liaison between Team 1671 and government officials. This subgroup regularly organizes events in the community to create awareness of FIRST and Team 1671’s successes. They also work to put on Team 1671’s annual Open House and silent auction. Outreach needs to accurately record the amount of individuals reached at each event.

CAD

The CAD subgroup is responsible for designing a competitive robot, creating and completing CAD and 3D printing projects, and helping all new members on their CAD and 3D Printing Skills. CAD works alongside the ST Chief as well as the rest of the ST division to create 3-D designs and drawings for the robot that can be sent out for manufacturing or be made in the machine shop.

Electronics

The Electronics subgroup works alongside fabrication, CAD, and programming. Members must effectively and safely wire the robot, help all electronics members, prep batteries, keep inventory of electronics components, and communicate any issues. They work with the ST leadership, mentors, and coaches to wire the robot in a logical, neat, and efficient way.

Fabrication

Fabrication works with the ST Chief, CAD, Electronics, and Programming Directors to order, manufacture, and assemble the robot’s physical components. Members must also assist with prototyping, taking inventory, building field elements, and cleaning the shop. The subgroup communicates with mentors, coaches, and ST leadership to ensure a smooth build process and train incoming members.

Programming

Programming works with the Electronics, Fabrication, Strategy, and CAD to develop the necessary software (including but not limited to Control Systems, Autonomous, and Vision Systems) for a competitive robot. In addition, they are responsible for working with Strategy to create and update scouting data and maintain the scouting app. They communicate with mentors and coaches to create an effective drive station and code the robot to run efficiently and carry out the necessary tasks during competition.

Shop

Shop oversees all of Team 1671’s machines and tools. They are entirely responsible for the maintenance and safety of the 1671 shop, training members on machines, and creating curriculum for machines. This person is different from directors in that it does not oversee a subgroup, but they do work with all other ST subgroups to help keep inventory.
