The Bird Brains’ STEAM Workshop introduces children to the concepts of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) through fun and engaging activities available in a convenient, portable box that can be sent anywhere in the world. Since its creation in 2018, hundreds of students have been exposed to STEAM and FIRST through the Bird Brains’ STEAM Workshop.

Workshop Components
The basics of engineering can be taught at any age. The Nest Test encourages creativity by providing students with miscellaneous materials to build the most stable tower in the room. Buchanan Bird Brains interact with students during in-person sessions of the workshops to encourage teamwork and ingenuity.
Behind every robot, there are countless lines of code controlling what the robot can do and where it can go. Team 1671 knows coding requires coordination, planning, and teamwork. Bird Search! is an activity that splits students into four different teams to create lines of code for their “human robot.” Teams work hard to avoid crashes and nulls to earn the most points to win.
Published in 2017, “Three Little Birds: Reach For The Stars” details the story of three birds (Coney, Rollo, and Blocky) chasing their dreams by building a rocket to fly to space! Over 400 copies have been sold and sent to schools from California to Laos.
Our Reach
The Bird Brains work hard to ensure that every child, no matter the situation, has the opportunity to be exposed to STEAM concepts. Originally starting in Fresno County (California), the Bird Brains have travelled over 10,000 miles to make workshops happen. Most notably, the Bird Brains sent team members 7,968 miles out to Laos to host the Bird Brains’ FIRST Flight at Ban Phawaii Elementary School. Team 1671 has also sent workshop boxes to schools where team members are unable to host workshops at.
